I founded Adam Flack Dog Training, Bishop's Stortford, to help people like you enhance their relationship with their dogs. I find great joy in teaching people how to understand and train their dogs positively and effectively.

Whether you're dealing with challenging dog behaviour issues or simply want to prevent them in the first place, I'm here to lend a helping hand.

If you are wondering what dog would suit your family and lifestyle or have a new puppy, my puppy dog training services can set the right foundation for a well-behaved and happy companion.

If you're facing existing dog behaviour problems, with my guidance and training I can help you address and resolve them.

If you have recently given a home to a rescue dog, training with me can help you learn about them and their needs as well as help you train them.

Remember, both you and your puppy or dog are constantly learning and growing together. Every interaction with your dog presents an opportunity for them to learn, whether it's intended or not. Even daily dog walks can serve as valuable teaching moments to reinforce desired behaviours and tackle issues like lead pulling, unreliable recall or dog reactivity.

My approach involves understanding the root causes of your dog's behaviour before implementing specific training and adding in enrichment exercises where necessary. I can help your dog feel more at ease in various situations, boost their confidence, and work with their breed-specific traits, such as chasing or retrieving.

Even if you're already enjoying a harmonious life with your dog, there are ways to further enrich their life and strengthen your bond. Activities like dog obedience and dog agility are fantastic opportunities to deepen your connection. Engaging games like fetch, gun dog retrievals, flirt pole, tug-of-war, and scent exercises cater to your dog's natural instincts and skills.

I offer a comprehensive range of services here at Adam Flack Dog Training, Bishop's Stortford, designed to assist you in achieving your dog training goals and overcoming any training challenges you may be facing.

Please don't hesitate to contact me to find out which service best suits your specific dog training needs.

Together, let's improve your dog's behaviour, strengthen your bond, and ensure an even more enjoyable life with your canine companion through positive reinforcement dog training.

About Me: Adam Flack IMDT

Adam Flack Dog Training Bishop's Stortford

Hi, my name is Adam. I live a busy life with my wife, 2 children and 2 dogs. I have lived and worked in Bishop's Stortford my whole life.

My dogs are called Millie and Barney. Mille is a 14 year old Chihuahua cross Jack Russell and Barney is a 2 1/2 year old border terrier.

I grew up with (and still maintain) a love for animals, domestic and wild, from a young age. Despite having all kinds of pets my whole life, I did not grow up with dogs.

It wasn't until about 18 years ago I started to have the opportunity to interact with and experience dogs on a regular basis.

I believe that having not grown up with dogs required me to form relationships with dogs based on respect and understanding as opposed to any pre-conceived ideas of just being able to touch a dog or expect it to want to be fussed.

Through my early years of trying to understand how dogs acted and behaved, I developed an interest in dog behaviour and training.

I set about training my first dog with enthusiasm, but lack of skill. Therefore I have learnt many things along the way, including making some mistakes and overcoming challenging behaviour.

Through reading about dog training and behaviour, watching online educational content and trying different things with my own dogs, as well as studying with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, founded by Steve Mann), I feel have developed my own dog training style and ideas to solve problem behaviours, drawing from the various sources of information and experience.

I believe you can never stop learning and I am embarking on further professional training in 2023/ 2024 with the aim to become the best dog trainer I can be.

After nearly 19 years working as a structural engineer, my journey to becoming a professional dog trainer started when I would get asked by family and friends to help them with their dog training. This included everything from new puppies to older dogs.

I realised the skills I have developed working with my own dogs can help other people too.

I draw great satisfaction teaching people and helping their dogs and have realised this has now become a passion of mine.

At Adam Flack Dog Training, my aim is to give you the knowledge required to train your dog to prevent or resolve problem behaviours. Teaching you to communicate effectively with your dog, encouraging the wanted behaviours using positive reinforcement training.

My aim is to help you lead the life you imagined when you first got a dog, but also help you to understand your dog as the individual that it is.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR DOG

Its important to make sure you research different breeds and decide if they will be suitable for your lifestyle. If you understand the original purpose of the breed, their energy levels and their tendencies, you can tailor your puppy training and dog training as well as their play, to your dogs strengths and weaknesses.

Below is an overview of the different dog groups that can be found at the Crufts Dog Show every year, which will help you begin to understand your dog better:

  • The Toy Group -
This group includes small breeds that are often kept as pets.
Examples include Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, Yorkshire Terriers and Pugs.

Examples include Bulldogs, Dalmatians, Miniature Schnauzer and Poodles.

  • The Hound Group -
This group includes breeds that were originally used for hunting by scent or sight.
Examples include Beagles, Greyhounds, Dachshunds, and Whippets.

  • The Working Group -
This group includes breeds that were originally used for tasks such as guarding property or pulling sleds.
Examples include Boxers, Dobermanns, and St. Bernards.
